What I’ve learned from years of practicing meditation is simple: it doesn’t make you flashy or fearless. It gives you something better—the ability to meet reality as it is, without being tossed around by your thoughts, emotions, or external pressures. That’s the root of true confidence—and it’s something any man can cultivate.

Research Note:

  • Mindfulness meditation significantly reduces anxiety, depression, and emotional reactivity, improving emotional regulation.

  • Meditation supports structural and functional growth in the prefrontal cortex—key for decision-making, attention, and self-control. It also helps quiet the amygdala, the brain’s stress center.

  • Even short-term meditation training boosts resilience and strengthens the neural connection between the emotion center (amygdala) and regulation hub (vmPFC), improving how you handle stress.

3 Thoughts

  1. Confidence isn’t about control or proving yourself—it’s about facing life as it is, with clarity. Meditation trains you to sit with discomfort without reacting impulsively.
  2. When you practice meditation regularly, you learn to notice stress, fear, and doubt without letting them dictate your actions. That calm awareness translates into steady confidence at work, in relationships, and in life.
  3. Real strength comes from being grounded in yourself, not from pushing harder or pretending nothing affects you. Meditation gives you that internal anchor.

2 Quotes

“It is in the nature of things that joy arises in a person free from remorse.” —The Buddha (from the Cetana Sutta, of the Anguttara Nikaya)
“Meditation is not a matter of trying to achieve ecstasy, spiritual bliss, or tranquility, nor is it attempting to be a better person. It is simply the creation of a space in which we are able to expose and undo our neurotic games, our self-deceptions, our hidden fears and hopes.” — Chögyam Trungpa

November is Men's Health Month. Hey Reader, On Tuesday, many of us will stand in silence for Remembrance Day. It’s a powerful, necessary quiet to collectively honour the sacrifices made for our freedom. That silence is about respect. Movember is about a different kind of silence. It's a dangerous one that we're actively trying to break by focusing on men's health each November. For generations, men were taught that "real" strength meant being stoic, tough, and silent. We learned to "suck it...

A Halloween thought & a practical plan for 2026. Happy almost Halloween! Beyond the candy, costumes and pumpkins, the roots of Halloween go way back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. For the Celts, this time marked the end of the harvest and the start of the winter—the darker half and more reflective season. They believed the veil between worlds thinned on October 31st, making it a natural time to acknowledge the past and clear the way for the new year ahead. People lit bonfires and...

New Canadian Study Brings Psychedelics into Everyday Wellness from Home. It was great to hear from so many of you last week. I'm glad the newsletter on "resistance" hit home. I wanted to share something this week that feels like a real shift, and it's happening right here in Canada. Health Canada just approved the first-ever clinical trial for at-home psilocybin microdosing to treat generalized anxiety. (Here's the news article, and the clinical trial info). This is a big deal. For a long...
